I've heard so many women say that it is harder to make and maintain friendships as they get older. Our lives are hectic, with layers of responsibilities and activities, not only for ourselves but also for our children and, in the sandwich generation, for our parents. With my own friends, if it's not a birthday or other special occasion, we may not see each other for months. Though we say we will do better, we fall into the same trap of sporadic, special-occasion gatherings only. Girls on the Go DFW aims to turn good intentions into action that is consistent, well thought out, community-building, and simply fun.

Krystal Jackson, Operations & Logistics Director; Leah Washington, Member Engagement Director; Jenevieve Amoah-Leonard, Vendor Partnerships Director; and Michelle Amoah, Marketing Director, came together to give intention new meaning through curated fun and social events around Dallas-Fort Worth. From bungee fitness to outdoor festivals to Mother's Day Out brunches, these ladies are creating memorable moments defined by sisterhood, beautiful conversations, and unique experiences. They are making it easier to connect and build adult friendships.

What inspired you to create Girls on the Go, and what gap did you feel was missing for women looking for community and connection in Dallas?

Girls on the Go was launched in a season in which I needed community. I was in a state of transition and looking for a sisterhood of women to get me out of the house. I am also fascinated with how many interesting things there are to do in DFW. From candle making classes to indoor slide parks to line dancing parties that take over whole downtown blocks, I am continually running across exciting things to do. I figured that there are other women who also desire a safe community they can explore with. I approached three of my dearest sisters with the idea and we decided to go into business as Girls on the Go officially in January 2026.

Your events blend fun, wellness, vulnerability, and intentional conversation. Why was it important for Girls on the Go to become more than just a social meetup group?

Life is hard sometimes. As a society, we have been given the blow of a devastating, world wide pandemic and we are now in the middle of one of the most politically divisive times in recent American history. If we were going to create a space for women to find community, it needed to be in the context of emotional safety, connection, and support. Those things are as important as fun and exploration.

Our goal is to create space to make memories and actually have people you can reflect on those memories with — in other words, to create an environment for friendships that stand the test of time.

Many adults struggle to build genuine friendships outside of work or family responsibilities. How has Girls on the Go helped women form authentic relationships and community?

I love this question. It can be really hard to meet new people. Going to events where you know no one is intimidating and introducing yourself in hopes that you find people you click with can be daunting. We are very cognizant of this and attempt to create community online long before a person ever steps into a GOTG event. We have a Facebook community in which many women find connection and safety that encourages them to step out and join us for an event. Once they show, we are so intentional about welcoming them and ensuring they find ways to plug in. We try to prioritize events that give us space to talk to others and we are protective of the environment we set. Leah Washington is our Member Engagement Director. Her role is designed to curate positive experiences for the women we serve. Our goal is building community. We hope to create a collective of women who look forward to getting out for another adventure every month.

Great events don't happen alone. Can you introduce us to the people behind the scenes and tell us how their experience and talents contribute to the overall vision and execution of these events?

Absolutely. The leaders on this team are superheroes. They come up with the most creative ideas and solutions and building these experiences with them has been a joy.
